Census fine warnings to residents

People who have still not completed their census forms face a £1,000 fine.

Investigators were out on the street for the first time yesterday visiting households in Leicestershire where residents had failed to return the census form.

Anyone who refuses to fill in the census will be interviewed under caution and could be fined under the 1920 Census Act.

Letters and cards reminding people that returning the census is required by law have been posted to households where there is no record of a form having been returned.
