Highcross artwork dismantled for repairs

All the glass discs from a piece of artwork on the wall of a shopping centre have now been removed after one fell off.
One of the 70cm wide discs came off its steel shaft and crashed on to the floor of Highcross Leicester in the early hours of Thursday.
This knocked down two other discs. Four others were then removed because of safety concerns.
No shoppers were in the centre at the time and no one was hurt during the incident, which happened two weeks after the centre opened.
After an assessment by engineers on Thursday, the remaining 53 discs have now also been removed.

The centre's general manager Tom Nathan said: "The glass discs from the artwork displayed in the mall at Highcross Leicester have been removed for maintenance work.
"It is not yet confirmed when the discs will be re-installed. "However, we are working hard to ensure that customers visiting Highcross Leicester will be able to see this artwork again soon."
On Thursday a section of the ground floor of the mall was cordoned off while assessors investigated the problem.
A spokesman for Highcross Leicester said they could not confirm what the cost of the repairs would be.
The 25 metre by 15 metre display involves revolving glass circles which reflect shoppers and change colour as they move. The display was created by internationally acclaimed interactive light artist Jason Bruges.
