Civic leaders have met leading Chinese dignitaries on a visit to the city.
Professor Shirong Li, the deputy director general of Chongqing foreign trade and economic relations commission, headed a group of Chinese delegates visiting Leicester on Monday.
The visitors viewed regeneration work going on in the city.
They also signed a memorandum of understanding signifying the close relations between Leicester and Chongqing.
The group visited the Town Hall for the signing of the memorandum and for Professor Li and a number of Chinese delegates to sign the visitors' book. Delegates were then taken on a bus tour of the city.
Leicester City Council deputy leader Councillor Abdul Osman attended the event, along with cabinet member for regeneration and transport, Councillor Patrick Kitterick, and cabinet member for health and community safety, Councillor Culdipp Bhatti.
On Tuesday, the councillors accompanied the delegates to London.
Coun Osman said: "This is an important delegation, and we really want to maximise the benefits of investment which China could make in the regeneration of the city." |
