Animal-lovers are being urged not to be duped by the latest internet scam.
Consumer Direct East Midlands has issued a warning about online adverts for pedigree puppies available for "adoption" or offered for "free to a good home" as long as the prospective owner agrees to pay for transport costs.
After exchanging details by e-mail, the scammers request funds be sent to them by money transfer before disappearing with the cash
Sara Barry, Consumer Direct East Midlands manager, said: "Although these adverts can seem genuine, and however cute the pictures might be, I would advise people not to buy a pet on impulse. People are advised to choose a reputable, local breeder so that they can go and see the animal.
