STEPHEN HAWKING SET TO VISIT UNIVERSITY

One of the world's sharpest minds is to visit Leicester to talk about the origins of the universe.
Professor Stephen Hawking, the author of A Brief History of Time, is to give a lecture at the University of Leicester as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations.
The event on Wednesday, May 28, is already sold out, with tickets snapped up in advance.
Jenny Lees, of the university's marketing department, said everybody was excited.
She said: "It's lovely for the university, particularly as we are quite a science-based institution.
"The tickets were given on a first come-first served basis, but we will have a nice mix of people in the audience."
Prof Sir Alec Jeffreys, who discovered DNA fingerprinting at the university, will give a lecture as part of the celebrations.
He will look at the origins of the technology, its current worldwide use in forensics and other applications, plus potential future developments, in a lecture entitled Genetic Fingerprinting - Past, Present and Future on Wednesday, April 30, at 5.30pm.
