The Mayor of Leicester is to open the city market's new £600,000 piazza this week.
Newly-elected Sir Peter Soulsby will officially open the food court and public square, called Market Corner, on Friday at 11.30am.
The piazza was due to be opened last month, but was delayed due to unforeseen building works.
Sir Peter said: "Leicester market has always reflected the vibrancy of our city and this new open-air piazza and food court is a fantastic development of the market's unique character.
"With such a delicious array of local flavours and food talents on offer, I'm sure it will prove to be a huge draw for visitors and I look forward to joining them on Friday."
Nick Rhodes, Leicester market manager, said: "We're very excited about opening this new space to the public.
"I think that people will very pleasantly surprised when they experience what we've created."
Every Friday and Saturday, traders will be selling food including authentic Indian dishes, award-winning pies, fresh coffee, organic cold meats and more.
Visitors can either eat in the new seating area or buy to take home.
The area of the market which comprises the piazza has been repaved, with power supplies and fittings for the new flexible stalls.
