It has today been announced that The Queen and His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh, will officially open the University's David Wilson Library on Thursday 4 December. During the visit Her Majesty and His Royal Highness will meet donors, senior officers of the University, members of the Project Implementation Team and students who will demonstrate how the Library benefits them in their studies.
The Library will be open as normal during the visit although access may be restricted by the Police and Security staff at certain times (most likely to be between 10.30 and 11.30 am). However, the Royal Visitors are keen to see the University on a normal day and I hope that many staff and students will come along to celebrate the visit with us. Viewing points will include Mayors Walk/Entrance 2, the Charles Wilson Building steps and outside the Library.
I am, therefore, happy for all normal activities to be suspended between 10.00 and 11.30 am should staff and students wish to come along. However, if any lectures or classes are to be reorganised or rescheduled this will need to be agreed with students.
I hope you will agree that welcoming The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh back to the University after 50 years is another tremendous achievement for the University.
