Leicestershire basked in high temperatures yesterday - the hottest day of the year so far.
Leicester Mercury weatherman Dave Mutton said Leicestershire reached a high of 23.3C (74F) - higher than temperatures in Barcelona, Athens and Venice.
He said it could get even hotter, and has predicted that the warm spell will last to see sun-worshippers through to the weekend.
It is the first hot spell of the year after months of peculiar weather, with lots of sunshine in February and snow in April.
Mr Mutton said: "It's certainly the hottest day of the year so far, and it could get even hotter.
"It's continuing all week and through to Sunday, as well. There may be a bit of cloud round tomorrow but I can't see any rain at all.
"We had about 13 hours of sun yesterday and we had 14 hours on Tuesday.
"We'll have a full week of warm, sunny weather."
The hot weather brought people out in force on to the city's parks to enjoy the sun.
Among them was foreign exchange student Alana Rolfe who took the opportunity to practise her violin, playing outdoors - entertaining her friends. |
