Source from Leicester local news:
Clothes store Gap is to close its branch in the city centre.
Bosses said the San Francisco-based firm would close its Humberstone Gate outlet next week, with its final day of trading on Wednesday.
It is not clear at this stage how many jobs will be lost.
The company said it may offer transfers to other stores for some employees.
It has not said if it is planning to relocate to another premises in the city.
The move comes as Gap continues to try to cut costs after struggling against years of sliding sales.
The company would not reveal how the Leicester store, which opened in 2000, has been performing.
A store spokeswoman said the decision to close had been taken "very seriously".
She said there could be a number of reasons behind the Leicester closure - including under-performance - but would not be drawn on the thinking behind the decision.
Dermot Breen, chairman of Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce's city centre committee, said: "It's always sad when we lose an international company like Gap, particularly when we've got the new Highcross centre about to bring so much extra footfall into the city.
"That is something they (Gap) may not have taken into account.
"However, with all the new companies coming to the city through the Highcross, the future is looking bright."
