“Crime Prevention Advice for University Students in Leicester”
A three-day event starts on 28th January to help students reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime
Students returning to Leicester University following the Christmas holidays are being offered crime prevention advice to ensure they stay safe in 2008.
The Campus Park neighbourhood team will be holding a three-day crime prevention event in the Charles Wilson Building at the University between Monday January 28 and Wednesday January 30.
Officers will be there each day between 10am and 2pm to raise awareness among students of crime prevention measures and to property mark any expensive gifts they may have received for Christmas, such as MP3 players, laptops and mobile phones.
PC Harvey Watson from the Campus Park neighbourhood team said: "The idea behind this three-day event is to reinforce the crime prevention advice which the students received when they came to Leicester in September, and to remind them of the need to protect their property to reduce the risk of them becoming a victim of crime.
"We will be marking items such as laptops, mobile phones and ipods with an ultraviolet marker pen and also urging students to record serial numbers and IMEI numbers. We will also be registering bicycles on a data base, to help us to reunite them with their owner in the event they are stolen and recovered."
The Campus Park neighbourhood team consists of PC 1129 Harvey Watson and PCSO 6051 Richard Smith. To leave a message call Leicestershire Constabulary on 0116 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer and when prompted key in the officer's identification number. |
